Special Olympics Canada and Concussion.

Dr. Nick Reed (University of Toronto), Dr. Kelly Arbour-Nicitopoulos (University of Toronto), and Dr. Emily Bremer (Acadia University) have partnered with Special Olympics Canada and its Chapters to do concussion research with the SOC community (including athletes, coaches, caregivers, and medical volunteers) since 2021. Learn more about our research and our range of concussion education products.

Concussion Education Toolkit
The Concussion Education Toolkit was co-created with Special Olympics athletes and coaches from across Canada. The toolkit is intended to be used by coaches and volunteers at sport practices to educate athletes with intellectual disability and their families about concussion. The toolkit contains posters and scripts to deliver education to athletes with intellectual disability that is meaningful, with little to no preparation. The toolkit is flexible to use (e.g., can deliver all education at once in about 25 minutes or split up topics delivered at different practices) and is available in both English and French.
